How to care for your Christmas tree

By following a few simple tips you can keep your tree fresh and fragrant through the Christmas period. When you bring your real Christmas tree home, cut 1cm (1/4 of an inch) off the base of the trunk.

Keep your tree in a container of water protected from the wind and sun until you are ready to decorate, this will help the real Christmas tree retain it's moisture. Before bringing the real Christmas tree into your home and placing it in a stand, cut another 1cm (1/4 of an inch) from the base of the trunk. This ensures that the Christmas tree stem is open and can take up water. Immediately put your tree in a stand and fill it with fresh water or moist sand. Stands and containers can be bought from our Nursery shop. If you allow the water level to drop or the sand to dry out, a new seal will form over the stem and will not allow the Christmas tree to take up water.

Christmas trees are very thirsty. Christmas trees may drink between 0.5 and 2 Litres of water per day. Check the stand daily and fill with fresh water as needed.
